“Side by Side” Caregiver & Family Support Program
Oct 28 @ 9:30 am – 1:00 pm

The “Side by Side” Caregiver and Family Support Group is a community outreach initiative of the Mt. Lehman United Church, and offers support to the general public of unpaid caregivers of spouses, elders, children, blended and extended families, as well as friends and neighbours of people with significant health needs.  We will meet the last Saturday of every month from September, 2017 to November, 2017,  at 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the church kitchen.  We will also offer coffee/tea and muffin and a lunch of soup and buns, as well as an interactive educational presentation on identified caregiver issues, and a safe place for caregivers to exchange information and meet others with similar experiences.  We would like any caregivers to register their interest as space is limited.  Please contact Paddy at 604-856-8114 or email… mtlehmansidebyside@gmail.com…to register, or go to the website at www.sidebysidecare.org  to get further information.

Our next session is September 30th, 2017.

PRESENTER: Colleen Rush, the Palliative Services Manager at the Abbotsford Hospice Society.

Our education session will be broken down into two parts. First, Colleen Rush, the Palliative Services Manager at the Abbotsford Hospice Society will give a brief overview of their programs and services and will also speaker on some of the new changes taking place in the delivery of frontline health care services such as person-centred. Because Colleen is doing some research, she may also ask the group questions about your experiences as caregivers concerning any issues/ideas/concerns that you have; your focus group comments will help in her research.

During the second part of the education session, Paddy Godbehere will provide an overview of those strategies you might like to set up to help you get organized in order to reduce your stress and to help you in case of emergencies. She will also provide forms you can complete in order to assist you.
If you are a new caregiver to the group, please register by contacting the Community Support Coordinator at mtlehmansidebyside@gmail.com

PLEASE NOTE: Our venue has changed this year to the ANAVET’S HALL AT Mt. Lehman, 30346 McNeil Ave., Abbotsford (5900 block on Mt. Lehman Road, west of railway intersection.)
